The “Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu (TNRS) presents the premiere of the performance “Vater” / “The Father” by Florian Zeller, staged by Dumitru Acriș, a production of the German Section. The preview is scheduled for 5 February, and the official premiere will take place on 6 February, starting at 7:00 PM, at the Grand Hall.
“It is an honour and a joy to have known, for a very, very long time, the master Victor Rebengiuc, one of the fundamental artists of this nation, but also a remarkable man in every respect. I have had the immense chance to perform alongside him, to bring him to the Sibiu International Theatre Festival countless times and, above all, to develop projects and programmes together, in which he has always shown extraordinary generosity.
I liked The Father performed at the festival so much, especially his interpretation. The German Section of the Radu Stanca National Theatre now dares to bring this production to the audience, with an outstanding cast, in a performance with such a beautiful, human and profound theme. Dumitru Acriș is the director who has staged several exceptional productions at the National Theatre, both for the Romanian Section and the German Section, and who has a special ability to work with actors.
I am convinced that this endeavour will bring great emotion and joy, and we warmly invite you to see this beautiful connection, established through the Festival, between those who know how to create miracles in the performing arts!” – Constantin Chiriac, General Manager of TNRS.
“The Father, based on the play of the same name by F. Zeller, is a performance about the human conscience’s need to remain awake—a conscience that once functioned like the mechanism of a perfect clock. The production portrays the life of a man suffering from dementia, who oscillates between reality and memory. It is a deeply moving tragicomedy about ageing, illness, the fear of loneliness and the human fear of losing oneself. It is about a father who goes through all the stages of life, from childhood to old age, guided by his daughter. The performance is like a continuous struggle to keep the conscience awake through love.” – Dumitru Acriș, director.
