The “Radu Stanca” National Theatre Sibiu continues its program dedicated to students through a series of events that highlight the personality and work of playwright Radu Stanca, an emblematic figure of Sibiu’s cultural life. The activities are coordinated by actress Ioana Blaga-Frunzescu.
On March 5, the writer’s birthday, TNRS organized a guided tour of the theatre accompanied by a conference dedicated to the history of the theatrical movement in Sibiu and to the personality of the figure after whom the institution is named. The event was part of a series of initiatives through which the theatre has dedicated the year 2026 to celebrating Radu Stanca – poet, playwright, and essayist, a visionary spirit who decisively shaped the evolution of the Sibiu stage.
The participants, high school students invited במסגרת the EduTNRS program, discovered the theatre’s spaces and key moments in the institution’s history, as well as important landmarks of the local theatrical tradition, which dates back to 1788 with the first German-language theatre in this area.
The series of activities continued with meetings organized both in educational institutions and at the TNRS headquarters. During these, students had the opportunity to discover lesser-known aspects of Radu Stanca’s biography, including the fact that during his lifetime his literary work was never published in book form. The conferences are complemented by recitals of ballads and love poems dedicated to his wife, actress Dorina Ghibu (Doti), offering an intimate perspective on his artistic universe.
One such event took place at the “Avram Iancu” High School in Sibiu, in the library coordinated by Mrs. Doina Blaga, where students interacted directly with the local literary and theatrical heritage.
At the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre, students from the “Andrei Șaguna” National Pedagogical College attended a conference on the theatrical history of Sibiu and Radu Stanca’s contribution to its development, followed by a guided tour of the theatre—from the foyer and the Main Hall to backstage areas, carpentry and tailoring workshops, prop storage spaces, and actors’ dressing rooms. Meeting the professionals behind the performances offered students a comprehensive perspective on the theatrical creation process, sparking strong interest and enthusiastic reactions.
The educational program continues with new conferences held at the “Andrei Șaguna” National College in collaboration with the Sibiu County School Inspectorate’s Center of Excellence. These address the theme of Radu Stanca’s contribution to the development of the theatrical movement in Sibiu and are followed by student debates on topics such as the role of artistic personalities in shaping a community’s cultural identity.
