The Sibiu Radu Stanca National Theatre was awarded the rank of Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit by the President of Romania

The Sibiu Radu Stanca National Theatre was awarded the rank of Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit, Category D — 'Performing Arts’ by His Excellence the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, on the occasion of the National Culture Day, ‘in appreciation of the professionalism and commitment with which it has served art and the public for generations and for its contribution to the national and international acknowledgement of Romanian cultural values’.
Constantin Chiriac, the General Director of the Radu Stanca National Theatre and the President of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, received the high and honourable distinction during a ceremony held on Friday in Bucharest, where Romanian cultural institutions and personalities were paid tribute to.
‘Here, in the Union Hall, we are all reflecting on the meaning of community, in which we try to bring miracle, and on what it means to grow a public and in particular to develop partnerships on an equal footing with the world’s greatest theatres. You have rewarded institutions, some of which have been witnessing the world’s great creation through dialogue for 235 years. Thank you, Mr. President! It’s a great joy to be able to have a dialogue in the name of our Great Romanian National Poet’, said Constantin Chiriac.
‘In the past decades, you, the ensemble of the Sibiu Radu Stanca National Theatre (...), have provided the public with interesting perspectives on the fascinating universe of human diversity. Romania is acknowledged for its force and freedom of creation, presented to the world every year, at the great Sibiu International Theatre Festival’, underscored the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, in the address he delivered at the ceremony where cultural personalities and institutions were awarded on the occasion of the National Culture Day.

Congratulations to Mr. Constantin Chiriac, its Director, for his restless commitment and dedication at the service of culture. The Sibiu Town Hall has financed and continues to support this cultural institution, appreciated not only in Romania, but all over the world, because we understand the importance of culture for an open community, connected to real values, and because we know that the cultural act shapes one’s character, broadens the mind and opens the world', declared Astrid Fodor, the Mayor of the municipality of Sibiu.
The Sibiu Radu Stanca National Theatre, a cultural institution under the authority of the Sibiu Town Hall and of the Sibiu Local Council, was founded on June 1st 1788 and is one of the greatest theatres in Romania.
