The TNRS German Department Mini-Season Brings Four Performances, Two Premieres and Cultural Guests to Sibiu

The “Radu Stanca” National Theatre in Sibiu will organise the German Department Mini-Season from 25 to 27 September 2026, an event bringing together diplomats, officials, prominent cultural figures, artists and audiences. This year’s edition features four performances over three days, including two premieres, staged at the TNRS main venue, Fabrica de Cultură and Sala Studio.

The programme highlights the stylistic diversity and thematic interests of the German Department, with the four productions approaching family, identity, memory, freedom and the search for self from different perspectives.

The Mini-Season also aims to create a framework for dialogue among cultural professionals and to help identify future projects and directions for the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre in Sibiu, its German Department and the Sibiu International Theatre Festival. The meetings held during the event may open up new opportunities for collaboration and strengthen national and international cultural partnerships in the years ahead.

On Friday, 25 September, at 7:00 p.m., Fabrica de Cultură – Sala Lulu will host the premiere of “Alice”, directed and choreographed by Ștefan Lupu. Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s celebrated story, the production offers a playful yet unsettling journey on stage, bringing together contemporary dance, theatre, music and video projections. Set in a world where the rules are constantly changing and the absurd becomes natural, the performance speaks with intelligence and humour about the courage to lose oneself in order to discover who one truly is, and about the childhood we leave behind yet always carry in our hearts.

On Saturday, 26 September, at 5:00 p.m., “Die Geschichte der Lola Blau”, based on the work by Georg Kreisler, will be presented at Sala Studio.

The second premiere of the Mini-Season, “Youth Without Age and Life Without Death”, directed by Ștefan Lupu, will be presented on 26 September, at 7:00 p.m., at Fabrica de Cultură – Sala Lulu. The well-known tale is reimagined through a contemporary theatrical language, inviting audiences to rediscover universal themes such as the passage of time, the desire to transcend human limitations and the pursuit of an impossible ideal.

On Sunday, 27 September, at 5:00 p.m., the Mini-Season will conclude at the TNRS main venue with “Avalanche” by Tuncer Cücenoğlu, directed by Alice Kornitzer.
