The Graduate, a comedy, is a play adapted by Terry Johnson, based on the novel by Charles Webb and the motion picture screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry, by special arrangement with StudioCanal. The movie directed by Mike Nichols, starring Dustin Hoffman, was awarded an Oscar, five BAFTA Awards and five Golden Globes.
The production at Radu Stanca National Theatre Sibiu presents young Benjamin Braddock’s story towards maturity and unveils from the fake gloss of the American dream, one’s continuous need of liberty and authenticity. Freshly graduated from college, uncertain about his future, he lets himself seduced by the more mature, but not necessarily wiser Mrs. Robinson, whose daughter he gets to fall in love with in the end. The love story between the two youngsters becomes an emotional test of maturity and self-recovery.
