In the beginning, there was a choreographer’s dream to put on stage the story of Camille and Rodin in a show that would combine dancing and words. In 2002, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao invites Marc Bogaerts to create the dance show together with Esther Cloet. In 2003, thanks to Jan de Maere’s generous support, the author, Patrick Roegiers, writes the monologue entitled I, Rodin. Dancing and words meet on the stage of Radu Stanca National Theatre of Sibiu, in a performance directed by Mihai Măniuţiu. A show about love and power, about creation and destruction.
I, Rodin depicts the confrontation between Camille Claudel and Auguste Rodin, her master and lover. Marc Bogaerts creates a ballet show based on this subject, in which Camille, played by the dancer Esther Cloet, is dancing away her relationship with Rodin. The sculptor is played by the actor Constantin Chiriac, his point of view appears in an exquisite monologue specially written by Patrick Roegiers. This combination between dance and words would not have been possible without Mihai Măniuţiu’s sensibility and visual acuity and Iuliana Vîlsan’s vivid imagination.
