“10” is an original project of the creative team, inspired by the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament. These represented the moral code of the people of Israel, and also stood as the ethical foundation for the whole of Christianity for two millennia. The text contains ten stand-alone, but also interconnected scenes, with ten main characters. The puzzle-like structure develops and completes itself gradually in a complex police-type scenario, each scene having as protagonist one of the ten characters, who presents their life from their own perspective, as a breaker of one of the Ten Commandments. The subject is largely based on the personal experiences of the actors, but developed and fictionalized by the playwright.
“The play shows the characters in usual, but also exceptional life situations; each moral decision made at one point by one of the characters has an important effect on the life of the next one”. (Csaba Székely)
“In a Romania where religiousness is in an atypical re-emergence to the centennial trend of all the other EU states, a country in which education, politics and society in its entirety cannot regard as opportune to be detached from the institution of the church, I believe that such a subject is very much necessary and abreast with the time. To what extent are the moral percepts of Christianity still valid today? Are they still responding to the needs of a society very different from the first-century Jewish one, like that of the 21st century? Is there a need for religion in order to lead a moral life? Here are just a few questions with which we want to stimulate the audiences’ emotion, imagination, but also the appetite for reflection”. (Radu Nica)
